WA math teacher, Scott Bowden, is taking a hands-on approach to teaching geometry! Mr. Bowden has taught mathematics at WA for six years and is always finding new ways to engage and educate his students. His most recent geometry project has created a lot of student interest! It is also on target with the educational trend towards hands-on learning and the integration of art into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) curriculum. Mr. Bowden has asked his students to design and create their own dream homes using paper and of course geometry! His classroom is now full of colorful paper houses and geometry projects that students have had a lot of fun learning and creating.
Mr. Bowden has also been the WA Math Team adviser for five years. The team this year is comprised of fourteen grade 9-12 students. On Wednesday, March 7 the team will have a home meet against ten Washington and Hancock County schools. Good luck Math Team members!

On Saturday, February 10 the WA sophomore class sponsored the second annual Father Daughter dance. The event was was open to all elementary schools and held in the WA cafeteria. Sophomore class officers, Zain Fitzsimmons, Mikaila Loughlin, Riley Fraser, and Ryan Conley coordinated the dance and marketed the event to area elementary schools through posters and posts on the Class of 2020 Facebook page. Their efforts yielded great results as attendance exceeded expectations with over fifty father - daughter couples dancing the night away. The cafe was decorated in a Valentine theme and even included a photo booth. Sophomore Karli Williamsmanned the booth and took pictures of couples which were then made available for download on the Class of 2020 Facebook Page. Raffles of donated prizes were also available to guests which included a floral centerpiece and goodie basket. The sophomore class is co-advised by WA Admissions Counselor, Doug Goodman and Math teacher Robbie Chaponis. Mr. Goodman remarked about the success of the evening, "I can't thank WA students and parents enough for their support with the event organization and food donations."
