Winter Solstice (2)

Did you know that the Larson Library at WA offers over 9,000 fiction and nonfiction books and that the reading list is growing? Librarian Arlene Porter is proud to announce that this year the library has added the CloudLibrary by Bibliotheca, a collaborative download library which includes both ebooks and audiobooks. This has added approximately 10,000 shared titles through the Maine InfoNet to the WA collection. The library is also in the process of adding a "private collection" to the cloud library that will be supportive of some of the more specific needs of the school curriculum that only WA students and staff members will have access to. The Larson Library is a busy place! Consistently each year there are approximately 27,000 visits by the school community. Mrs Porter shares, "This is my 14th year working as a librarian/media specialist. I enjoy being a librarian because I get to do all the things that I love: spending time with students, reading and selecting books, playing with technology, and teaching and collaborating with other teachers"

Winter Solstice (1)

On Saturday, January 6 the senior class sponsored the Winter Solstice Masquerade Ball. The event is an annual semi-formal dance that seniors host as part of their Project Graduation fundraising efforts. The proceeds from the dance will be used to provide a safe and fun filled evening for seniors the night of graduation on June 4, 2018. On one of the coldest nights of the year over 100 students danced the night away. The cafeteria was decorated as a winter wonderland with small evergreen trees, white lights and a sparkly photo booth! Students also enjoyed refreshments provided by the junior class. The evening was a tremendous success generating over $500. Senior class president Lauren Wallace remarked, "This particular event was one of the most successful winter semi-formals in terms of generating profit for a senior class." Congratulations seniors!

The varsity boys basketball team has had a great start to their season! The team has played over half of their regular season games, and with only seven remaining, the Raiders have a 7-3 record. Head Coach Barry Terrill remarks, "With WA being in Class B this year every competition has been a challenge. Two of our three losses have been against first and second place teams. We are looking forward to a rematch against the Hermon Hawks on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 15." The team is led by senior captains Kyle Case and Jim Lin. Coach Terrill also shares, "the team chemistry is coming along nicely with new faces finding a rhythm playing with each other." Come out and support the team at their next home game on Monday, January 22 at 7:00 pm against the Narraguagus Knights! Congratulations Raiders!
