Staff, faculty, students, and families gathered for the annual fall open house, held on Wednesday, September 13th. The evening opened with a delicious three course meal and inspirational messages from Head of School, Mr. McBrine and Associate Head of School, Mr. Reynolds. Guests then toured the school led by WA's own student ambassadors and visited with faculty members in the Gardner Gymnasium. Curriculum tables were organized by department and featured various classroom materials. The evening brought out many new faces who are looking forward to a great new school year!

On Monday, September 11th residential students enjoyed their first round of the year- long Color Games competition. Students were randomly assigned teams from the Larson, Gaddis, Cates, and Talbot dorms. This year, the opening competition was a photo scavenger hunt. The team that finished first and submitted a complete set of photos was declared the winner of the first round. The mission involved a 15-photo submission as well as a bonus request. The Emerald Green Team won the scavenger hunt.
The next competition of the series will take place in October and will feature a lip sync battle. A ballot of judges will determine the "best rendition" of designated songs. Another competition is being planned to take place mid-winter and a final field games event in the spring. The overall team winner will be declared for the year based on accumulated points.

Meet Hannah Sprague of WA!

Ms. Sprague is a 2014 alumna and a Business Management/Marketing major at the University of Maine at Machias. Last fall she was an intern in the Development Office and then began as a part time Digital Media Associate in January, and most recently joined WA full time.

In addition to her busy schedule, Ms. Sprague also teaches Applied Media at WA and currently has seventeen students enrolled for the fall semester. Students in this class utilize modern media techniques to create their own marketing and reporting projects. Skills such as writing, photography, graphic design, and videography will be developed and student work will be featured in local newspapers, publications, and on the WA website and social media sites.

Ms. Sprague shares, "I am very excited about teaching this new class. I have a wonderful group of students. I am very pleased with how quickly they are learning and how much they are enjoying the material. My goal is for them to develop a love and understanding for marketing, photography, videography, and design." She is an avid photographer herself and is often seen around campus searching for an opportunity for the perfect picture!

Welcome (back) to WA Ms. Sprague!
