WINTER ATHLETICS
BOYS BASKETBALL
Raider basketball is one of the most popular athletic programs at Washington Academy. Its popularity supports three teams, competing at the varsity, junior varsity and first team levels in the very competitive Big East Conference. The typical boys basketball season consists of sixteen varsity and junior varsity games. Home games are played in the Gardner Gymnasium to the music of the Raider Pep Band and spirited-cheers from the designated student-fan section of the bleachers.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Washington Academy girls basketball consists of varsity and junior varsity teams who play in the very competitive Big East Conference. The typical season consists of sixteen varsity games and eight junior varsity games. Home games are played in the Gardner Gymnasium.
WINTER CHEER
Since the early 1990's the Raider Cheer Team has been making a spirit statement on the basketball court, and later on the football team. With state championships, and a history of success the spirited Team engages with Raider fans during game time and rallies school spirit during the school day.
WRESTLING
Wrestling is a co-ed Raider sport at Washington Academy and is coached by long-time head coach, Lupe Soto. Coach Soto has coached Raider wrestlers to conference and state championships, and even a first-time female wrestler to a New England Championship event in 2024. The typical wrestling season consists of eight matches, including a home match in the Gardner Gymnasium.
