Dear WA Family,
I want to reach out to you immediately to let you know that an individual was present at WA on Monday of this week for less than 30 minutes before being alerted that a household member of that individual had had close contact with someone who had tested positive on Monday. This individual immediately left WA and has been quarantining at home and following all precautions.
As of now, there has been no positive test at WA for a student or employee. In keeping with our approved protocols for responding to COVID risk, I have decided to move our instruction to 100% remote for the remainder of this week, and for the days leading up to Thanksgiving next week. In other words, we will have fully remote learning on Thursday, November 19, and Friday, November 20, as well as Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24. November 25 is a normal remote learning day. Students will be missing 2 days of in-person instruction this week and 1 day next week for a total of 3 days.
Given the rapidly accelerating COVID virus transmission rates and heightened risk of exposure for many in our school community as families and friends inevitably gather to celebrate holidays, WA has planned a full week of remote learning for the week following the Thanksgiving holiday break, November 30-December 4, 2020.
Though we are not encouraging family gatherings in accordance with the Maine CDC guidance, we do understand that at this time of year, many separated families want to spend Thanksgiving together. Having a full remote week following this holiday will insure the greatest precaution of safety possible for the WA community at large. By returning to hybrid on Monday, December 7, this will also insure that at a minimum, we can preserve two full weeks of our hybrid model in December and do our part to get Washington County back to green.
