Washington Academy (WA) senior Alex Morgan has been selected as the 2020 Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen. This award is in recognition of a student who possesses the qualities of dependability, service, and participation in their home, school, and community.
Throughout the years at Washington Academy Alex has been elected to various student government offices, organized many fundraisers for meaningful community causes, and led school change as a member of the WA Student Council. Her character holds traits that have been recognized many times during her underclassman years, including being selected to receive the Washington Academy Kindness Award in 2018 and 2019. She is also a three year member of the National Honor Society.
In addition to attending WA, Alex has volunteered over 200 hours of her time helping community members and organizations in need. Her efforts have included peer tutoring, organizing donations for Soles4Souls, Community Giving Tree, Masks for Those In Need, assisting with Special Olympics and United Way Maine, and volunteering at the Calais Thrift Store, American Folk Festival, and Calais Regional Hospital. Alex states, “My leadership skills have blossomed over the last few years with the help of my teachers and leadership conferences. I always try to be a role model and do so by caring for my community, a form of small-town patriotism that is extremely necessary.”
Alex will be attending a four-year college and majoring in psychology with a minor in biology. She plans to take a semester abroad researching social psychology with leading specialists from around the world. Washington Academy congratulates Alex Morgan for receiving the 2020 DAR Good Citizen Award.
