Dear WA Parent/Guardian:
We hope this finds you well and that you had a wonderful holiday season. For some time now, we have looked forward to 2021 and the positive changes we know it will bring. Our efforts to educate and keep students safe continues to be our top priorities.
The results of the recent survey have provided us with great feedback. What we have learned is that our current plan, with a few adjustments, is the best plan moving forward. With the current guidelines we are not able to return to full in person learning at his time. As COVID-19 continues through our county we believe that our Hybrid Model is the safest and most effective way to educate our students and that it gives us the best possible chance to keep our doors open and keep clubs and extra-curricular activities going for our students. Therefore, we will begin the second semester in 2021 in a Hybrid Model. There are a few adjustments that are described below.
We recognize that students need additional academic and social support, especially when they are struggling. As a result, we are extending our school day to 1:45 PM. Periods 1 through 3 will remain the same but we have added a period 4 study hall from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM. If at any time a student’s grade in a class drops below a 75, that student would be expected to stay each day after school during their in-person days for those forty-five minutes with our teachers and study hall monitors. Students who are doing well academically would be able to leave campus at 1:00 PM.
In addition to this, we are also going to run clubs and activities from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM so that students who can attend have a chance to do so. Buses will no longer be arriving at 1:00 PM for dismissal. Buses will arrive around 1:50 or later. Students who are eligible to leave campus at 1:00 PM may do so and those that must wait for their bus will be assigned to study hall or may attend a club or activity.
While this work has been challenging and many of the solutions are unprecedented, we are confident that Washington Academy will continue to provide a quality education for our students. It is imperative that you reach out to WA’s Guidance Office at 255-8301 Ext 212 IF you are wishing for your child to be strictly remote. We will continue to meet the challenges of our current situation by looking at ways to have more students on campus as soon as possible, should that opportunity arise. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me or Associate Head of School Tim Reynolds at email@example.com or at 255-8301 Ext 203.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this trying time. Please see the attached second-semester schedule. To view the second semester schedule please visit 2021 Spring Semester.
