Washington Academy Head of School Judson McBrine is proud to announce senior Sarah Otto as the 2021 Maine Principal's Award recipient. The award sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) and is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship. Sarah is the daughter of William and Shelley Otto of Machias.
While at Washington Academy, Sarah is a well-rounded member of the Raider student body. She is a high honor student, a member of the National Honor Society, and spends countless hours participating in WA fine arts and athletic programs. She is a four-year cultural dance student and a three-year teaching assistant. Sarah is also a three-year member of the Washington Academy Drama Club, the WA Players. Last year she performed in the "This Is Not A Pipe Dream" production, awarded second place at the 2020 MPA Drama Festival. Sarah is also a volleyball program member, playing her freshman and sophomore years and managing her junior and senior years. She is also active in the community as a three-year Community Service Day participant.
Sarah will be honored at the Maine Principals’ Association virtual awards ceremony and scholarship drawing on Friday, May 14. Ten $1,000 scholarships will be given in the names of former Maine Principals and MPA Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.
The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high school member principals of the MPA, the professional association representing Maine's school administrators.
