Capital Campaign WA Needs You to Realize the Vision

Arts & Music Center
$1,475,000

New Wellness Center
$75,000

New fields, trails, & courts
$325,000

THE NEED:
A campaign feasibility study put arts
and music facility improvements as
WA's top priority. Over 25% of WA
students are in at least one music group,
despite limited rehearsal and practice
space. Visual arts classes, now in
cramped
quarters with inappropriate
seating and
lighting, can't
accommodate the numbers
of
interested students.

THE IMPACT:

Gardner Gymnasium, built in 1994, will
anchor the new addition. Rooms created
for specific purposes-from music
rehearsals
to pottery kiln-will transform
the experience
of deserving students
and teachers.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
A new lobby connects the existing
gymnasium
with the new addition.
Student artwork,
donor recognition,
and trophies will all be
displayed in
this high traffic area. Performance

space will double as summer
lecture room.

    THE NEED:
With childhood obesity at epidemic
proportions, it's critical WA help students
develop a lifelong habit of exercise. Right
now, students must travel to UMaine Machias'
fitness center to exercise. In addition, with
the advent of WA's popular football program,
it became clear how inadequate our current
facilities are for the serious athlete.

THE IMPACT:
With the creation of the new Arts & Music
Center addition to Gardner Gymnasium,
the current music space will be available-the
perfect place for WA's new Wellness Center.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
The Wellness Center will feature weight
training,
cardio, and aerobic workout centers
as well as
offices, a training room, nurse's
station, and
a classroom.
  THE NEED:
Cross-country teams are now forced to
run on trafficked roads; ball fields are in
needs of repair and expansion to reach
regulation size and accommodate
spectators; a thriving tennis program
needs courts.

THE IMPACT:
All outdoor teams will enjoy safer practice
and playing conditions. The baseball
team
will be able to practice on a
regulation-sized
field. WA will be eligible
to host cross-country
and tennis
tournaments. Sports fans will be
able
to watch outdoor ballgames in comfort

and safety.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
The cross-country trail will also
accommodate
mountain bikes and
cross-country skiers.
The lighted tennis
courts will also be open
to the community.
Community youth
programs will be
expanded to include
tennis.
