WA People Worth Getting to Know

Mrs. Plummer
English

English teacher Virginia Plummer is a favorite among favorites at Washington Academy. In her 24th year at WA, Mrs. Plummer is still looking for new ways to cultivate a love for literature and knowledge in her students.

The hardest part of her job, she says, is "having to say goodbye to seniors each June." Mrs. Plummer's personal love for expressive language is evident in her favorite quotes, by Emily Dickinson: "Hope is the thing with feathers -- that perches in the soul." Rumor has it that Mrs. Plummer was also a great golfer in her day.

Mrs. Plummer holds a Master's in Journalism and Communication and is active in many state and national professional organizations. She is the director of the Maine Writing Project's Young Author's Camp at the University of Maine.

She teaches American Literature, Creative Writing, and Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition.
