Admissions Welcome

As one of the oldest academies in Maine, Washington Academy has been meeting the educational needs of students in grades 9–12 since the school’s charter was signed by John Hancock in 1792.

Taking into account each student’s differences, the Academy creates opportunities that equip students socially and intellectually for their future endeavors. The curriculum offers rigorous college preparation that includes honors, AP and university classes, while being flexible enough for students who seek quality business and technology education, and everything in between. Emphasis is placed on the performing and visual arts, math and sciences, and involvement in the community.

The Academy’s 75-acre campus is located in a safe, rural community in coastal Downeast Maine, just 2 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, where the air is clear and the water is clean!

The location enhances the nurturing environment created by a low student-teacher ratio, individualized attention, and a welcoming community. The area also provides excellent recreational opportunities, including kayaking, sailing, fishing, hiking, and nature walks. Nearby Machias offers restaurants, banks, shopping, and the university campus.

WA welcomes short term study students-one semester, two months, even one month. You decide when it is best for you. Enjoy one of Maine’s best seasons….Summer! Our summer programs combine athletics with outdoor experiences, recreation and fun with Intensive ESL, TOEFL Prep and College Writing, and even more academic classes that allow you to earn up to four credits each summer.

With higher-degreed faculty, small class sizes, 99% matriculation rate for international students, three dormitories on campus, new athletic facilities and a commitment to community, WA welcomes YOU-a highly motivated, curious, creative, out-of-the box individual who is seeking a unique educational experience as a US high school boarding student.

I invite you to explore our new website. You can find our application here. Please contact me if you would like more information. We are all anxious to get to know you!
