CNA Classes Train on Donated Hospital Beds
This past September, the Down East Community Hospital generously donated two electric hospital beds to Washington Academy for use in its CNA classes. Angela Fochesato '85, Executive Assistant to the CEO, spearheaded the effort to make the complicated equipment a component of the essential training of these students. Instructor Erin Flannery said that in addition to learning to operate the beds, the students have practiced lab work on them such as bed baths, nail care, massages, back rubs, shaving, and brushing and flossing of teeth. The proud students pictured are in full uniform, including stethoscopes!

Raiders Middle School Football Ends With a Win
The WA Raiders Middle School Football team ended its four-game inaugural, exhibition season with a victorious home game on October 21st. The boys' final scrimmage was against the same Ellsworth Middle School team that had defeated them in their first game in Ellsworth.
WA's team was sponsored and equipped by Washington Academy with help from Cranberry Motors. Enthusiastic fans turned out to see the skills the young men had acquired on the gridiron, which they learned during their eight weeks of practice under the direction of coach Bill Weiss. The plan for next year is that the WA Raider team will compete, along with 24 other teams, in eight games as part of the Eastern Maine Middle School Football League.
