WA Wins First Math Meet!

Washington Academy hosted--and WON!--its first Math Meet of the school year on November 30th. Math teacher and long-time competition coach, Pete Rensema, said WA fielded four teams which scored 178, 161, 160 and 130 points respectively. Five schools competed in the Washington County Meet.

WA has been state champion twice in the last decade: in 2004 and 2010. Equally impressive is that in the competition between Washington County and Hancock County, WA has taken the first place trophy the last eight consecutive years. WA is off to a great start in this year's bi-county rivalry in that it had the top scoring team out of the eleven schools participating in the league's competition. Twenty-seven (27) students from WA competed this week and five finished in first place: seniors Steven Shi and Richard Yu, junior Liren Wang, and sophomores Mary Rose Nguyen and James Shen!

The next Meet is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13th in Calais. Storm date is December 14th. Congratulations to WA's math "whizzes" and thanks to all who support their effort.

Winter Music Concert

On Tuesday, December 6th, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a concert featuring WA's Band, Steel Drums, Guitar Class and Jazz Band. The ensembles will be playing a selection of festive music. In lieu of admission, there will be baked goods for sale, the proceeds of which will go to support the music program. Please come and enjoy the talent of WA's hard-working students--they will surely put you in the spirit of the upcoming holiday season!

Winter Sports Spirit Week!

WA kicks off the winter sports season Monday, December 5th through Friday, December 9th with Spirit Week! This is a traditional time of fun and frivolity as the students are encouraged to participate as follows:

Monday:  Hat Day
Tuesday:  Down East Day
Wednesday:  Ugly Sweater Day
Thursday:  Clash Day
Friday:  Raider Pride Day

Students: Don't forget you must bring non-perishables, or $1 donations for PAWS, each day if you want your class to win the pizza party or ice cream sundae party!

Winter Sports Begin!

Cheerleaders have already begun practicing for an exciting season of basketball as the Varsity, JV and freshman girls and boys teams have been selected, along with Varsity swim and wrestling teams.

Basketball starts with a Round Robin scrimmage at 5:00 p.m. on December 1st-2nd against Shead and Sumner. Tickets for this event are $2 for adults and $1 for children. Regular season games begin this weekend. Schedules for specific events can be found on WA's calendar on our website.

Season passes for basketball games will be available soon at a savings that should make them irresistible for fans. Congratulations to all who will be representing WA this winter. Come out and support your teams! Go Raiders!

Trip to Husson

Ms. Kropp, Ms. Terrill, Mr. Ausprey and Mr. Sprangers will accompany 17 juniors and seniors to Husson on Friday, December 2nd to observe classes in which they're enrolled and tour the University campus. WA offers credit for Husson courses that students take while at WA.

REMINDER: Grades close for 2nd Quarter Progress Reports on December 9th. Progress Reports will be mailed on or about December 14th.

College acceptances are pouring in and will be announced in late spring when all students have applied to, and heard from, their chosen destinations. WA shares in the pride and pleasure of those who have already finalized their matriculation plans!
