Is
Washington Academy Right for Me?
Studying in the United States—it's
a big decision. First, ask yourself
five questions:
- Do I like to meet new people?
- Am I willing to live apart from
my family?
- Can I commit to speaking and writing
only in English?
- Is my family able to make the financial
investment?
- Do I have a strong desire to succeed?
If you answered "yes" to these questions,
then we encourage you to consider studying
at Washington Academy!
There
are many fine private high schools in
the U.S. Here are the benefits that
help make Washington Academy stand out
from the rest:
Safe, Coastal New England
Setting
Washington Academy is on the Atlantic
coast of Maine. That makes us the first
private high school in the U.S. to see
the sun rise each day. It also means
our students enjoy outdoor learning
opportunities and four full seasons
of recreation.
Outstanding English Language
Instruction
Many U.S. schools require a minimum
TOEFL score. Not us! Washington Academy
accepts students at any level of English.
Hands-On Learning Options
While you can choose from a full schedule
of traditional courses, being near the
ocean brings our students many advantages.
In Environmental Studies, you will put
on "hip boots" and go outside to study
nature. Like boating? Our Boat Building
Program will teach you how to build
your own!
Caring Teachers, Staff and
Students
You are an individual. Washington Academy
gives you plenty of individual attention.
Our average class size is 14, and our
student population averages 350. This
small, caring community means you quickly
get to know your Washington Academy
faculty and classmates.
Family-Style Living
Our "dorms" are actually comfortable
Colonial homes, one for boys and one
for girls. All student rooms are spacious
and have TV and high-speed Internet.
Two caring, professional "house parents"
also live in the home. International
students may also choose to live with
local host families. (To learn more
about student housing at Washington
Academy, see Dorms
and Host Families.)
