Your new home at Washington Academy
will be either in a dorm or with a host
family.
Dormitory Life
Washington
Academy has two historic homes full
of modern conveniences for International
students, including the Larson House
for 15 male students and the Cates House
for 10 female students. When you come
to Washington Academy, you will feel
right at home.
Our dorms are safe, comfortable, and
clean. Each room is wired for Internet
access. A cook prepares
your evening meal, and the kitchen stays
open for evening snacks! If you wish,
you can have your laundry washed and
folded by a service, or you can wash
your own clothes in the dorm.
Host parents live in the dorm 24 hours
a day for supervision and support. Your
dorm parents will take you to the store
to buy new sneakers, help you cook your
favorite foods for your new friends,
or take you to the doctor if you get
sick. Your dorm parents will help you
have a happy, safe, and successful school
experience!
Dorm life gives you plenty of chances
to practice your English with your new
friends. When you study together, play
tennis or soccer, or just relax, you'll
be sharing and learning a new language.
Host Families
How
did you learn to speak your native language?
From your family, of course! A host
family helps you learn English the way
you learned your own language. You will
be in a warm, caring environment—and
you will speak and hear only English.
A host family gives you a chance to
be immersed in U.S. culture all day,
every day. No class or book can do that!
You don't just learn English and customs,
you live them!
Our host families are carefully chosen
and we match your interests to theirs.
All our host families are friendly,
and eager to share their lives with
international students. They are happy
to learn about you and your country.
You will share meals, go to movies,
shop, and take family trips. Frequently,
students and families stay in touch
long after graduation.
