Washington
Academy is one of the oldest college
preparatory schools in New England.
With more than 100 different classes,
students have plenty of options to shape
their studies to their interests and
needs. In addition to excellent programs
in traditional studies such as Science,
Mathematics, English, and World History
and Culture, Washington Academy also
offers unique hands-on programs like
Boat Building and Environmental Science.
Our extensive use of "nature as a classroom"
sets us apart among boarding schools
in Maine and New England.
In addition to college preparatory
courses, Washington Academy offers many
exciting, enriching electives. These
include Digital Film and Video Production,
Music Appreciation, Creative Writing,
Computer Programming, and Web Design.
We also have many advanced placement
(AP) classes for advanced students,
as well as the opportunity for juniors
and seniors to take free classes at
the nearby University of Maine at Machias.
Washington Academy students are required
to take 20 credits to graduate: four
English credits, three Social Studies,
including U.S. History, three credits
each in Science and Mathematics, one
Fine Arts and one Physical Education
credit, and one half credit each of
Health and Computer Proficiency.
