At
Washington Academy, recruiting high-caliber
teachers is a top priority. All of our
teachers are certified and over half
have Master's degrees.
But credentials are only part of the
story. Our teachers love to teach, love
to learn and love to talk and listen
to students. Washington Academy has
24 full-time teachers, which means one
teacher for every eleven students and
an average class size of 14.
Our faculty receives plenty of praise
from students and parents. But perhaps
the best insight into the quality of
Washington Academy's teachers comes
from their own words. Here are what
a few of them say about their approaches
to teaching:
"I try to bring as many real
world situations into the classroom
as possible. It makes math use practical,
sensible, and therefore remembered and
used."
-Martha Jordan, Mathematics
"My teaching style is to be
happy, flexible, a good listener, firm,
and very, very patient."
-Marie Finn, Special Education
"The student artist requires
a wide range of experiences with different
materials in order to produce works
of imagination and vision. I put a lot
of energy into the studio experience
because I believe it brings the greatest
lifelong rewards."
-Felicia Avery, Art
"My job is to guide my students
toward happy, meaningful, worthwhile
lives, and hopefully instill a true
love for literature and knowledge along
the way."
-Virginia Plummer, English
"I see my core mission to
keep learning myself so I can further
educate my students."
-Chad Fitzsimmons, History
Washington Academy teachers are caring,
flexible, knowledgeable, and, most of
all, dedicated. We invite you to consider
studying with some of the best educators
anywhere.
