Academic Life
Inspiring You to Reach Your Highest Potential.
Washington Academy is one of the oldest college preparatory schools in New England.
With more than one hundred classes, students have plenty of options to tailor their studies to their interests and needs. In addition to excellent programs in traditional studies such as science, mathematics, English, and world history and culture, Washington Academy also offers hands-on programs like Boat Building and Environmental Science. Our extensive use of "nature as a classroom" sets us apart among boarding schools in Maine and New England.
In addition to college preparatory courses, Washington Academy also offers many exciting electives. These include digital film and video production, music appreciation, creative writing, computer programming and web design. We also have many advanced placement (AP) classes for advanced students, as well as the opportunity for juniors and seniors to take free classes at the nearby University of Maine at Machias.
Washington Academy students are required to take twenty credits to graduate: four English credits, three social studies, including U.S. History, three science, three mathematics, one fine arts, one physical education and one half credit each of health and computer proficiency.
